Which Japanese used cars are the most reliable for daily driving in the UK?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a reliable Japanese used car for everyday driving in the UK and wanted to hear some real experiences from people who have owned one. There are plenty of options available, but it's not always easy to know which models continue to perform well after years of use.

I've been reading about Japan 2nd hand cars, and many people say they offer excellent reliability, good fuel economy, and lower maintenance costs compared to some other used vehicles. Still, I'd rather learn from owners than rely only on reviews.

From what I've found so far, these seem to be popular choices:

  • Toyota Yaris – Known for excellent reliability and affordable running costs.

  • Honda Jazz – Practical, spacious, and often praised for its dependable engine.

  • Toyota Corolla – Comfortable for daily commuting with a strong reputation for longevity.

  • Mazda3 – Enjoyable to drive while still being reliable if properly maintained.

  • Suzuki Swift – Compact, economical, and well-suited for city driving.

Of course, I know that service history, mileage, MOT records, and regular maintenance are just as important as the badge on the bonnet. A well-looked-after car can often be a better buy than a newer one with a poor maintenance record.

For those of you who drive Japanese cars every day in the UK, what has your experience been like? Have you found parts easy to source and servicing reasonably priced? Are there any specific models or engine options you'd recommend or avoid for someone looking for a dependable daily driver?

I'd love to hear your recommendations and any ownership tips before making a decision.
